Managing Kids' Social Media Use

How do I keep up with and manage my kids’ social media use safely and responsibly?

Here’s my take, with useful resources:

  1. Delay as Long as Possible: Best to wait, given most age limits are 13+. Internet Matters - Age guides
  2. Open Communication: Foster a safe space for them to talk about anything online. Listen without judgment. NSPCC - Talking to your child
  3. Set Clear Boundaries: Establish screen time limits, teach privacy settings, and create device-free zones. Model good habits. Childnet International - Parents
  4. Educate About Risks: Discuss digital footprint, misinformation, cyberbullying, and online strangers. UK Safer Internet Centre - Parents
  5. Foster Digital Citizenship: Encourage them to be kind, respectful, and critical thinkers online. Common Sense Media - Digital Citizenship

It’s tough and ever-evolving, but open dialogue and smart boundaries build resilience.
